A Whirlwind of Color

bird on a leaf

A recent card I made for a loved one. I snapped a quick pic and edited to create my monthly header using the image.

What a fun and eventful month it has been here at Lynn Dylan Designs. I have lots to share! Since last month’s post, I have felt so motivated to create with lots of ideas. It has been a whirlwind at times of just drawing, coloring, designing and yes- posting! Let’s dive in…

A logo I created for myself and 2 friends as we had our first booth together at the Clayton Harvest Festival!

The Bee’s Knee’s Collective

What a joy to come together with 2 other friends - Pam and Betsy to create the Bee’s Knee’s Collective! We are just 3 friends who all create many things, but have a common theme with ceramics. We got together and decided on our name (we all love bees, like a ton!) and of course we had to have a logo. I created this logo when my friends said they wanted whimsical and just plain fun.

Our first booth together at the Clayton Harvest Festival was a success! We split one tent (booth) into 3 sections and poured what felt like our souls on those very tables. So many precious things we all made and cared to bring into this world. We were encouraged, loved and celebrated for overcoming this feat and putting ourselves literally out into the world. This was by far the biggest event any of us had ever done and though it was intimidating, we did it. We did it together!

We started early and finished up by late afternoon to some tired bones but a huge boost in our hearts. Take a look at the pics below…

A very big thank you to Pam and Betsy for all the love, support and encouragement to make our first event such a success!!!

The Holding Woman Series

After sketching one night and having this image come alive in my sketchbook, a new series was born and I knew immediately I needed a plan.

I would loosely draw this rounded figure and she would be holding a wide variety of objects and things. Those things would be what I loved, enjoyed or inspired me. Maybe things I feel too. I was excited and made the leap to posting daily on Instagram. I wasn’t sure how long I would draw her, but I wanted it to be a lengthy series. 10 days at least. 10 days came around and I knew I could not stop there, so I decided for the month of November. 30 Women holding things. It has been a wonderful personal project that has kept me drawing daily and enjoying colored pencils every chance I get.

Shape of the Month:

ORGANIC

Organic Flowers

I am delighted to share that this is my first completely digital coloring page. That’s right - I drew the flowers on my computer with a stylus and added the font and artist trading card rectangle in an application called Canva. I still have tons to learn and work through to enhance my digital offerings, but this is a start I am so excited to share with you. So print, color and cut out for decorative details or bookmarks. Falling Back in love with Colored Pencils…

What a fun time I have had this month breaking out my colored pencils and drawing or adding color on my sketchbook pages and journals. I cannot recall why I really stopped using them on a regular basis, but every semester when I teach my high school students about color blending…I get so giddy and fall back in love with them all over again. Well, this semester I did not go right back to the micron pen, I kept my coloring pencils handy and felt the warmth of the pencil line come to life in my sketchbook. Aside from the Holding Women Series, I have been drawing flowers, bird-like creatures, organic shapes and incorporating collage. I made several cards also using only colored pencils. I don’t think I realized how much I have been creating lately, I have enjoyed seeing them all gathered in one place. Take a look at what I have been up to this month via colored pencils below…
